Instead of Making Excuses, Black Men Stand Up!
There are over 1 million black men in prison. These numbers are alarming because these men who are locked up should be fathers, husbands, leaders and community builders. As a community we have got to change our strategy because the system we are using is failing our young black men.
To tackle this problem madatory classes should be put in our youth's curriculum, especially those who are targeted as not having fathers or role models in their home or neighborhood. Classes teaching them to be responsible young men include life skills, college prep, male/female relationships and fatherhood and what it means because many of our young men are expected to be good fathers and husbands with no training and no prior experience.
If these classes were put in place for middle school and high school men I believe we could combat this cycle of incarceration and death of our young black men.
